How to get involved and support the channel

Patreon is a membership platform that allows people who enjoy a creator’s work to support them directly through small monthly contributions.
It’s one of the biggest and longest-running creator-support platforms in the world.

  • It was founded in 2013 and has been running for over a decade.

  • More than 250,000 creators use it to fund their work.

  • Over 8 million active patrons support creators every month.

  • Patreon has paid out billions of dollars directly to creators since launch.

  • It’s used by YouTubers, podcasters, educators, journalists, musicians, artists, and entire creative studios.

Patreon helps creators like me to keep making high-quality, independent content, avoid dependence on unpredictable ad revenue, spend more time researching, filming and producing videos, and connect more closely with the people who care most about the work I do.

As an independent creator focused on explaining energy, climate and technology clearly and accurately, every video I make requires a great deal of time in research, fact-checking, writing, production and editing.

Patreon support gives me the stability to plan more topics, invest in better tools, and dedicate more hours to producing thoughtful content — instead of chasing the YouTube algorithm or relying on ad revenue. I have never monetised any of my videos on YouTube and I have never accepted, and will never accept, sponsored partnerships to make content.

By joining my Patreon, you’re not just donating — you’re becoming part of the channel’s foundation.

Depending on the tier level, ‘Just Have a Think’ Patrons enjoy:

  • Early access to all my videos.

  • The ability to vote in monthly content polls.

  • Exclusive monthly news updates.

  • Communication with other members in chat forums.

  • Direct access to me, either in forums or in one-to-one chats.

But the biggest reward is knowing you’re directly supporting work that helps millions of people understand some of the biggest and most consequential challenges and opportunities that we face in the 21st Century.

If you don’t feel that Patreon is for you, but still want to show your support for the channel, you can make ad-hoc donations via Paypal in your local currency. This gives you maximum flexibility to dip in and out as it suits you.

You can also set up monthly donations on Paypal without the platform taking a fee prior to paying the creator.

You don’t have to create an account, and donations take just a few seconds. So if you’d like to give me a bit of a boost during the long hours of researching and writing, Buy Me a Coffee is one of the easiest and most direct ways to do it.
